Safe Space

To be a safe space means creating an environment where everyone feels welcome, respected, and supported, regardless of their background, identity, or beliefs. In a safe space, individuals can express themselves authentically without fear of judgment, discrimination, or harm.

This entails actively fostering a culture of inclusivity, empathy, and understanding. It involves listening attentively to others' experiences, validating their feelings, and standing up against any form of harassment, bullying, or intolerance.

At Blend and Befriend, we train our staff on the meaning of a safe space and the important practices that create safe spaces.  Jennifer Pattee, the owner, brings extensive experience working in schools and through multiple non-profit organizations.  She regularly meets with staff to ensure that they consider themselves to be in a safe space so that they can help manifest that feeling in others.

At Blend and Befriend, you will see plants and decorations that are specifically chosen to create an environment that prioritizes support and inclusivity.  At the entrance is a table with information about local resources.  The bookshelf offers art supplies and games for anyone to use.  The walls have decorations intended for children's classrooms that also create less stress when placed in a public space.

Ultimately, being a safe space is about creating a sanctuary where everyone feels valued, safe, and respected.  Above everything else, this is our goal at Blend and Befriend.
